Flotilla Charter in Tahiti??

In the couple years since selling Lats&Atts Jody & I kinda missed traveling… Today, as I was stroking Katie kitty (my cat!) I came up with a hare-brained scheme. Maybe we could still do some fun traveling? Here’s an idea I am working on. If this sound interesting let me know, and we will see if we can’t make these happen!

Sail Share

Jody & I started our first “Share the Sail” flotilla charter back in 2011 while producing Latitudes & Attitudes Magazine. Over the next 22 years we held events in Tahiti, Greece, Croatia, New Zealand, Tonga, Samoa, the Bahama’s, The BVI’s and dozens of other great locations. It was simple. People “signed on”, and couples would get their own private cabin on a cruising sailboat for a week to 10 days (dependent on location!). It included provisioning, the boat, insurance, dock fees, and fuel. The sailing and cooking were “shared” amongst the crew, and we would put one experienced staff member on each boat to help show what the cruising lifestyle is all about. If this sounds interesting, leave a comment below.

  1. I would love to do it! Let me know once there’s a date. I also have 2 or 3 couples that would be interested. Since I skipper/host bareboat catamaran trips all over the Caribbean, I would love to venture out to Tahiti and skipper one of the boats in the flotilla.

    Rick and Michelle

  2. Hey Bob,an old contemporary here, could be interested, I taught an ASA 114 class there in Tahiti about a dozen years back. We skipped around to most of the islands during the week, had a great time. Put me on the list thanks Captain Jim Cash.

  3. We’ve been there and done that with you and Jody et al in 2011 and we had a great time; but, really aren’t interested in a repeat.
We’ve done the BVI’s, St. Lucia to Grenada and the Bahamas (Hopetown etc.). We’ve also had our sailboat in the Sea of Cortez (Baja Sur) for the past 12+ years.
We were in New Zealand for the America’s Cup in 2003; but, only got 1 day out cruising on Bay of the Islands. We were in Australia (Airlie Beach in Whitsundays for 5 days) this past February; but, didn’t get out sailing at all because of Cyclone Alfred!!!
We’d go back to either New Zealand or Australia in a heartbeat to Share the Sail. We’re old people now, Bob; so, quiet and relatively protected waters appeal.

  4. Let’s go. We’ve done Tahiti and Croatia with you and both were wonderful adventures. Jim and Pam Von Ehr.

  5. Yes, I would be interested. Did a share sail event to BVI with a musician friend back in June 2022 shortly after BVI’s reopened. Group of 5 catamarans. The guy they signed on as our captain had no license, lost his powerboat certification and wanted to motor the full 10 days. I was put in charge of a Lagoon 42 with only lake sailing background on 25 foot scows.
We all made it, the sailing was great and I have the big to do it again, however with at least a marginally qualified crew. Also a number of the boats in the fleet were still hurricane damaged Laggons with lots of issues.

  6. Bob & Jody,

Yes, my husband & I took part in The Share the Sail with Kyle & Melanie the kids you sold the magazine too. It was great. The answer is a big Yes, we would love to participate with you & Jody in
Tahiti. We have never been there!!

  7. We’re game, and leaning heavily to signing up but………. depends on when and how much per cabin/person. Have captained my own cat and numerous charters after crawling out of my own hole in the water, but look forward to crewing under a captain familiar with French Polynesia.
